Our 7 Benefits of using a Sit Stand Desk

Sit Stand Desks are becoming the norm across many offices, and were seeing a higher demand for swapping a couple of desk height one’s out, to make way for a more hybrid work environment.

So… what is a sit, stand desk? A sit, stand desk is a height adjustable desk which allows you to either sit or stand comfortably whilst working. There are some really great benefits to using one.

ONE – Standing lowers risk of weight gain and obesity. By standing up for some of the working day, your body burns more calories, so its a great way to take a few extra calories off your day.

TWO – Using a standing desk may lower blood sugar levels. The more blood sugar levels increase after meals, the worse it is for your health. Standing can reduce the amount of blood sugars you gain. The harmful effects of sitting after meals could increase chance of type two diabetes. So, the sit, stand desk can allow you to alternate your working position between meals, avoiding the above effects.

THREE – Standing may lower your risk of heart disease. In 1953 the idea that standing is better for your heart was first proposed. An earlier study on bus conductors and drivers evidenced that the conductors who stood all day had half the risk of heart disease linked deaths than their colleagues the drivers. So research does suggest that spending a little more time on your feet is healthier for your heart.

FOUR – Standing desks appear to reduce back pain. Most office workers commonly complain that they suffer with back pain. Sitting with the correct posture all day can be challenging to some people causing them to suffer with their back. Swopping to a standing desk can ease the discomfort from sitting and have smaller effects overall.

FIVE – Standing desks help improve mood and energy levels. Standing desks appear to have a positive influence on overall wellbeing. A study showed that percipients using a standing desk reported less stress and tiredness than those who continued to be seated the whole work day.

SIX – Standing desks may even boost productivity. Some people believe to think that standing can have a bad impact towards everyday jobs at the desk. There is no indication that a standing desk can interrupt with any day-to-day work tasks such as typing, writing etc. Bearing in mind that standing improves mood and energy, using a standing desk is more likely to boost productivity rather than delay it.

SEVEN – Standing more may help you live longer. Studies have recently found that there are more links between siting frequently and death than there is standing and death, therefore standing more often could help lengthen your lifespan.

So, there we have it, seven good reason why the sit stand desk could be an all round winner for the office. It is worth noting that like most things, standing at your desk would take some adjustment, and we tend to advise doing it in small stints, so that your body can adjust. There are also posture aids such as Stools to perch on, mats that absorb some of the pressure from standing on hard floors to cable trays and spines so your cables look neat and tidy!
